This research uses a qualitative descriptive method. The data in this research were analyzed using the Fairclough discourse analysis model. At the level of text analysis, the results of the study show that Al-Jazeera uses sharp and firm diction, namely by using phrases meaning “taukid” (strengthening), “laa” and “lam nafiyah” particles, sentences meaning “tasybih” (similarity) which have bad connotations, bad idioms, metaphorical expressions to show evil, causality to explain a situation, and the use of negative diction. At the level of discursive practice, Al-Jazeera creates news according to its target audience in the Middle East and Africa. At the sociocultural level, Al-Jazeera has an ideology, namely, representing the unrest of Middle Eastern society with the slogan, “The opinion and the other opinion.” Besides that, socio-political conditions in the Middle East and diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Qatar influence Al-Jazeera in producing discourse about Saudi Arabia, especially Saudi Vision 2030.
Muhammad Ghafary Yuhandra Tubagus Chaeru Nugraha Fahmy Lukman Copyright (c) 2024 Muhammad Ghafary Yuhandra, Tubagus Chaeru Nugraha, Fahmy Lukman https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2024-02-10 2024-02-10 7 1 9 24 10.30872/diglosia.v7i1.808 Translation strategies of metaphor in The Ballad of Never After novel by Stephanie Garber https://diglosiaunmul.com/index.php/diglosia/article/view/797
Metaphor is a figurative language often found in literary works, especially novels. It contains unique cultural elements, which makes metaphor hard to understand and translate. This study examines the strategy of translating metaphors in The Ballad of Never After novel from English into Indonesian. Data were analyzed using the qualitative descriptive method completed with the theory by Newmark (1988) regarding translation strategies of metaphor. This study revealed that from the 96 data obtained, seven translation strategies of metaphor were used by translators to convey the meaning of the metaphors in the novel from English to Indonesian and reproducing the Same Image in the Target Language is the most frequently used strategy. In contrast, the least used strategy is Changing the Metaphor by Simile Combined with Sense and Deleting. It indicates that English and Indonesian share many metaphorical images with similar meanings. It causes translators being more flexible in reproducing metaphors in the target language, considering cultural similarities and the circumstances in which metaphors are expressed.
Kadek Darmapratiwi Desak Putu Eka Pratiwi Copyright (c) 2024 Kadek Darmapratiwi, Desak Putu Eka Pratiwi https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2024-02-10 2024-02-10 7 1 25 34 10.30872/diglosia.v7i1.797 The harmony of nature in Ahmad Tohari's thoughts through the novel Di Kaki Bukit Cibalak https://diglosiaunmul.com/index.php/diglosia/article/view/837
Awareness of the importance of natural harmony as an ecosystem for human life has become an important topic to study. The phenomenon of natural damage triggers this condition due to the actions of unscrupulous people in the community. Forest clearing for industrial purposes is one of the triggers. Apart from that, the increasingly complicated management of plastic waste due to a lack of public education about this impact also triggers the destruction of natural balance. Therefore, through this article, the researcher attempts to link this paradigm with the message conveyed through the novel Di Kaki Bukit Cibalak (after this DKBC) by Ahmad Tohari. The method used in preparing this article is genetic structuralism with a literary sociology approach. The results of the research show that based on the story structure found, the author's worldview about the importance of maintaining natural harmony is embedded in the story being told. This view also shows that the harmonization and harmony of nature is an important foundation for Indonesia's golden generation. Therefore, the author's worldview can be an important pillar as an alternative environmental education material delivered through school education.
Venus Khasanah Novi Anoegrajekti Samsi Setiadi Copyright (c) 2024 Venus Khasanah, Novi Anoegrajekti, Samsi Setiadi https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2024-02-10 2024-02-10 7 1 35 42 10.30872/diglosia.v7i1.837 Permainan bahasa dalam penggunaan bahasa Inggris oleh pedagang asongan di pantai Kuta Lombok https://diglosiaunmul.com/index.php/diglosia/article/view/904
The playfulness of English is the result of language interference, which can be a source of creating new English variations. The data collection by ‘simak libat cakap’ or involved conversation observation technique, recording, and taking notes technique. The data analysis method is reduction, presentation, and conclusion. Data analysis shows that the playfulness of English by hawkers comes from loan translation in the form of reduplication of Indonesian and Sasak words into English. There are two forms of loan translation: a change in the meaning of English in accordance with Sasak and Indonesian, and not experiencing a change in meaning but experiencing the addition of English meaning in accordance with Sasak and Indonesian. The factors causing the English playfulness are internal factors such as the difference in vocabulary structure from Sasak and Indonesian to English and the influence of Indonesian and Sasak as the dominant language. Factors external the language are influential in English playfulness, such as level of education, economic status, occupation, regional origin, and the situation of speech.
Hilmi Nurhandini Sulistyowati Sulistyowati Copyright (c) 2024 Hilmi Nurhandini, Sulistyowati Sulistyowati https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2024-02-10 2024-02-10 7 1 43 54 10.30872/diglosia.v7i1.904 Dampak strategi quick write berbantuan media animasi terhadap keterampilan menulis teks persuasi siswa https://diglosiaunmul.com/index.php/diglosia/article/view/809
This research is motivated by the need for innovation in the learning process in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era. The pragmatic approach is a learning approach to improve students' speaking/kaiwa skills in the classroom, prioritizing contextualized learning of speaking skills. This emphasis on context becomes particularly significant throughout the learning process. By employing this approach, students, including those in secondary schools and universities, can closely simulate practical speaking conditions, both verbally and in written form. The method used is qualitative descriptive with purposive sampling. Therefore, applying the pragmatic approach has proven effective in promoting active learning, significantly improving students' speaking skills inside and outside the classroom. The Japanese language learning process should be designed to meet practical language needs that correspond to real-world situations. By incorporating patterns based on pragmatic studies, learners undergoing Japanese learning experiences will naturally connect with the practical aspects of communication in the language learning process.
However, the place is fully taken care of by Hindus who are indeed attached to protecting the surrounding nature, and their commitment to guard several points of springs. This research aims to measure the inter-religious relations in the area and also to analyze the extent to which folklore as a discourse can be recontextualized as an effort to harmonize the bond of humans with nature. The research method used is qualitative, the first step applies the narrative structure of the story through actantial theory, the second is tracing the hypogram for the Antaboga story which dated back to Hindu’s teaching, and the last is looking at discourse as a power practice to recontextualize the harmonius reality.
