While automated translation technologies, such as Google Translate and ChatGPT, are increasingly used, questions remain about their ability to maintain meaning, aesthetics, and cultural integrity in literary texts. This study compares the English translations of the short story Gerhana Mata produced by both tools, analyzing their strengths and weaknesses. A digital hermeneutics approach is used to explore how meaning and cultural context are conveyed in these translations. The research employs a qualitative, comparative design to assess the accuracy of meaning, fluency, and the ability of both tools to preserve literary style and nuances. The results highlight the importance of translation techniques such as transposition, modulation, and adaptation in maintaining grammatical accuracy and cultural relevance. In this study, ChatGPT demonstrates superior performance compared to Google Translate in preserving the original text’s meaning and aesthetic quality. This research contributes to the field of automatic translation, offering insights into how AI tools can be improved for literary translation and cultural preservation.
Erika Agustiana, Nandang Hidayat, Widya Widya Copyright (c) 2025 Erika Agustiana, Nandang Hidayat, & Widya Widya https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://diglosiaunmul.com/index.php/diglosia/article/view/1123 Sun, 11 May 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Tindak Tutur komisif dalam debat publik pertama calon bupati dan calon wakil bupati Mojokerto pada pilkada tahun 2024 https://diglosiaunmul.com/index.php/diglosia/article/view/1151
The objectives of this study are (1) to describe the form of commissive speech acts in the first public debate of Mojokerto regent and vice-regent candidates; (2) to describe the purpose and context of commissive speech acts in the first public debate of Mojokerto regent and vice-regent candidates The method applied in this research is descriptive qualitative with a pragmatic approach. However, online classes tend to rely more on teacher-centered presentations, allowing them to isolate students from the learning process. The diverse characteristics of students are a challenge for teachers in building interaction and communication and facilitating effective collaboration. A literature review shows that interaction is important for student learning outcomes. Therefore, understanding and categorizing student characteristics is important in building a learning community so that it can improve teacher and student interaction, as outlined in cybergogy-based online learning models. Cybergogy is a new concept of cyber-based learning with three main domains: cognitive, emotional, and social, known as engaged learning. This approach emphasizes the importance of creating a holistic and engaging online learning environment that caters to the diverse needs of learners. The research findings indicate that online learning designed based on cybergogy principles effectively fosters student engagement and collaboration, thereby successfully mitigating key issues that often hinder the effectiveness of online education. By recognizing and addressing the cognitive, emotional, and social aspects of learning, cybergogy aims to foster a sense of community, encourage active participation, and promote deeper understanding.
Dadi Satria, Yulianti Rasyid, Ary Kristiyani Copyright (c) 2025 Dadi Satria, Yulianti Rasyid, Ary Kristiyani https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://diglosiaunmul.com/index.php/diglosia/article/view/1146 Mon, 19 May 2025 11:32:36 +0000 The grammar of beauty through the language of advertisements on Vaseline US and Indonesia websites https://diglosiaunmul.com/index.php/diglosia/article/view/1169
This study examines how the systemic functional grammar is employed in Vaseline advertisements to construct and convey notions of beauty, as well as the underlying brand messages communicated through promotional content. Specifically, it compared the linguistic features on the Vaseline ads for the US and Indonesia. Qualitative-descriptive methodology was employed in this study. The data collected correlated to the transitivity found in the sentences on both advertisements. The Transitivity in SFG theory by Halliday & Matthiessen serves as the analytical framework, which focuses on three elements of transitivity: process, participants, and circumstance. The findings show that Vaseline advertisements' transitivity refers to a reflection of relational and material processes. Vaseline US focuses on its line of products and services to achieve dream skin, while Vaseline Indonesia emphasizes its key ingredients and reputation as an innovator. The concept of beauty in both nations is also reflected in the transitivity. Vaseline US encourages Americans to strive for healthy skin, while Vaseline Indonesia perpetuates the myth of ageless and bright skin. In conclusion, Vaseline's technique of differentiating linguistic elements in Vaseline advertisements based on the concept of beauty standards might be considered effective as it makes Vaseline becomes one of the biggest beauty brands.
Agata Filia Dei Gratia, Merry Andriani Copyright (c) 2025 Agata Filia Dei Gratia, Merry Andriani https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://diglosiaunmul.com/index.php/diglosia/article/view/1169 Mon, 19 May 2025 14:06:02 +0000 Kekerasan, trauma, dan kritik terhadap tradisi dalam alih wahana Di Tubuh Tarra, dalam Rahim Pohon https://diglosiaunmul.com/index.php/diglosia/article/view/1194
The narrative of child violence and trauma in the adaptation of Faisal Oddang’s short story Di Tubuh Tarra, dalam Rahim Pohon into the @budayakita podcast reveals the complex interplay between tradition and the realities of contemporary society. This study aims to examine the transformation of the narrative of violence and child trauma through Gerard Genette’s narratological framework and Judith Herman’s trauma theory. Employing a textual analysis method, the research identifies shifts in narrative structure that emerge during the adaptation process. The findings indicate that mothers and children occupy vulnerable positions within the dominant social system. The narrative transformation from short story to podcast amplifies a critical stance toward patriarchal structures that perpetuate harm against women and children. This study concludes that the short story to podcast conversion of Di Tubuh Tarra, dalam Rahim Pohon not only illustrates the struggle of children in the face of violence but is also expected to contribute to the discussion of literary research that focuses on child abuse.
Arga Dara Ramadhani, Dhita Hapsarani Copyright (c) 2025 Arga Dara Ramadhani, Dhita Hapsarani https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://diglosiaunmul.com/index.php/diglosia/article/view/1194 Sun, 01 Jun 2025 13:13:52 +0000 Penggunaan analisis korpus melalui aplikasi AntConc dalam penelitian karya sastra https://diglosiaunmul.com/index.php/diglosia/article/view/1198
This article aims to explore how corpus analysis patterns are applied and to demonstrate the practice of using the AntConc application in literary studies. (2021), titled Saving the Environment: Environmental Lessons in Colin Thiele’s February Dragon. Geographically, the United Kingdom dominated publication output, whereas Indonesia recorded the highest citation count. The most frequently emerging themes include climate change, environmental degradation, anthropocentrism, ecocentrism, biocentrism, and ecofeminism. This bibliometric analysis also highlights the potential of ecocriticism, an interdisciplinary approach to fostering environmental awareness and informing public policy.
Nia Ifatul Mufidah, Widyastuti Purbani , Ari Nurhayati, Isti Haryati Copyright (c) 2025 Nia Ifatul Mufidah, Widyastuti Purbani , Ari Nurhayati, Isti Haryati https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://diglosiaunmul.com/index.php/diglosia/article/view/1148 Wed, 21 May 2025 13:51:47 +0000 From ‘artifact’ to stage ‘performance’: A comparison of the romantic-nationalist and performative paradigms in folklore studies https://diglosiaunmul.com/index.php/diglosia/article/view/1225
The emergence of the text/context debate in folklore research has facilitated new interpretations of how researchers approach their objects. Folklore research focusing solely on "text" has faced criticism for disregarding the contextual factors surrounding the genesis of folklore. This study compares the paradigm that perceives folklore textually with the paradigm that contextualizes it by examining the Romantic-nationalist and Performative paradigms. The use of the Romantic nationalism paradigm as a representative of item-oriented research is based on its historical, epistemological, and practical aspects. This study uses a qualitative methodology with a literature review to evaluate and synthesize existing research on the Romantic-nationalist and Performative paradigms in folklore studies. The primary distinction lies in focus: Romantic-nationalism views folklore as a traditional artifact that fosters collective identity, while the performative paradigm sees folklore as a dynamic social event in constant flux. While each paradigm has distinct strengths and limitations, synthesizing both offers a comprehensive perspective encompassing the static and dynamic dimensions of folklore. This study provides a framework for understanding folklore as both cultural heritage and a mechanism for constructing identity within dynamic social change.
Eggy Fajar Andalas, Sudibyo Prawiroatmodjo, Sri Ratna Saktimulya, Novi Siti Kussuji Indrastuti Copyright (c) 2025 Eggy Fajar Andalas, Sudibyo Prawiroatmodjo, Sri Ratna Saktimulya, Novi Siti Kussuji Indrastuti https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://diglosiaunmul.com/index.php/diglosia/article/view/1225 Wed, 21 May 2025 14:10:48 +0000 Transformasi penerjemahan bentuk seksisme dalam novel Pasung Jiwa ke dalam novel Bound https://diglosiaunmul.com/index.php/diglosia/article/view/1154
This research aims to seek the transformation that occurs in the translation of the sexism forms in the novel Pasung Jiwa, and its translation of the novel Bound. A qualitative literature review was employed, analyzing theoretical frameworks, empirical research, and case studies related to storytelling, storynomics, and language teaching methodologies. The findings suggest that storynomics enhances speaking instruction by creating a dynamic and interactive learning environment. It helps students relate to content, organize thoughts, and express ideas fluently and coherently while promoting authentic language use and creativity. Effective methods for implementing storynomics in classrooms include personal storytelling, digital storytelling, and role-playing. Challenges such as teacher preparedness, varied student proficiency levels, and time constraints in curricula were identified. The paper underscores the need for further research on the long-term effects of storynomics on speaking proficiency and its adaptability to different cultural contexts. Addressing these gaps will provide a more comprehensive understanding of its application in language education. In conclusion, storynomics presents a promising approach for enhancing speaking skills in higher education by making learning more engaging, practical, and interactive, ultimately contributing to improved student outcomes in verbal communication.
Lery Prasetyo, Naniana Nimrod Benu, Ni Luh Supartini, Ni Made Ayu Sulasmini Copyright (c) 2025 Lery Prasetyo, Naniana Nimrod Benu, Ni Luh Supartini, Ni Made Ayu Sulasmini https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://diglosiaunmul.com/index.php/diglosia/article/view/1144 Sun, 08 Jun 2025 09:16:22 +0000 Struktur kepribadian tokoh utama dalam kumpulan cerkak Langit Biru Kanaya karya Sunaryata Soemardjo https://diglosiaunmul.com/index.php/diglosia/article/view/1199
A person's mental health affects their well-being, and a balanced personality structure between id, ego, and superego allows the main character to achieve their well-being. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method to provide an in-depth explanation of linguistic phenomena, particularly the use of diction and effective sentence construction. The findings reveal several errors in word choice and sentence structure, such as excessive word use, influence of colloquial language, and improper sentence arrangement, which lead to vague meanings and ineffective message delivery. Accurate word choice—including appropriate conjunctions, precise synonyms, and the avoidance of nonstandard or redundant words—can clarify meaning and aid reader comprehension. Effective sentences, characterized by clarity, precision, and appropriateness, help prevent confusion and enhance the reader’s understanding of the bulletin content. The implications of this study encourage the bulletin’s editorial team to conduct regular training on effective writing for writers and church administrative staff. The study was a correlational design on 39 students of the Indonesian Language Education Program a university in Indonesia. Dependence on the use of AI was assessed through a questionnaire; academic reading ability was measured through an essay test. The data were analyzed using SPSS with Pearson’s, with effect size (r) and significance (p) reported. The results showed that the participants had a moderate dependence on AI Chatbots (M=2,78; SD=0.64) and reading scores in the basic category (M=47,74; SD=16,67). A weak but significant negative correlation was found (r = -0,370; p = 0,020). These results prove that a higher dependence on AI use can be associated with reduced cognitive ability in reading academic texts. Although limited by a small sample and the scope of one university, this study offers preliminary evidence about the risks of using AI in language education, especially reading academic texts, which runs counter to the assumption that AI is universally beneficial. This research aims to determine how effective the Think-Pair-Share (TPS) method using role-playing card media is in improving speaking skills on pacelathon text material. Pretest-posttest control group modeling was used in this quasi-experimental design. There were 68 VIII grade kids in the sample, 34 of whom were in the experimental and control groups. While the control group employed conventionally based methods like lectures and Q&A sessions, the experimental group employed TPS media and techniques. The independent samples t-test and n-gain test were used to evaluate the data. The findings revealed a noteworthy distinction between the two groups (P-value=0.000). The N-Gain obtained by the experimental group was 65.14% (moderately effective), while that of the control group was only 21.84% (ineffective). Thus, the TPS method supported by role-playing card media is effective in improving students' oral proficiency in Javanese. This strategy is recommended to be applied to other learning materials to increase student participation and learning outcomes.
Fayza Andini Zahra, Nur Hanifah Insani Copyright (c) 2025 Fayza Andini Zahra, Nur Hanifah Insani https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://diglosiaunmul.com/index.php/diglosia/article/view/1242 Sat, 14 Jun 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Dampak integrasi pendekatan heutagogi dan e-learning dalam model flipped classroom terhadap kemampuan, strategi, dan motivasi membaca https://diglosiaunmul.com/index.php/diglosia/article/view/1241
This research aims to investigate the impact of the integration of the heutagogy (HA) and e-learning approaches in a flipped classroom on reading skills, strategies, and motivation. The method used in this study is quasi-experimental involving 351 high school students. Descriptive statistics and ANOVA were used in this study to test the effects of the intervention and compare them with other groups. The findings showed that the integration of the heutagogy and e-learning approaches in flipped classroom teaching was able to improve reading literacy skills, the use of reading strategies, and psychological factors that support the improvement of reading skills such as self-efficacy, reading motivation, and student autonomy. The principles of the heutagogy approach used in teaching reading skills are the the task, teacher support, student autonomy, evaluation. The most significant impact on reading skills and psychological factors of reading skill development is student autonomy. This study implies that the combination of the heutagogy (HA) and e-learning approaches can be an alternative for teachers to improve language skills, such as students' reading literacy skills.
Utami Dewi Pramesti, Dadang S. A descriptive research design with a qualitative approach was employed. Data collection involved interview and observation methods. For data analysis, translational equivalence, distributional, and componential analysis methods were utilized. The distributional method was applied using substitution and expansion techniques. The findings reveal two forms of synonymous adjectives: word-to-word and word-to-phrase. The semantic components of these synonymous adjectives can be categorized into four groups: (1) tending to be similar, (2) tending to be different, (3) exactly the same, and (4) an equal number of similarities and differences. Nine factors differentiating the meanings of these synonymous adjectives were identified: (1) one is more general, (2) more intensive, (3) more emotive, (4) more professional, (5) encompasses acceptance and rejection, (6) more colloquial, (7) local or regional in nature, (8) differences in application, and (9) differences in implication. The distinctiveness of adjectives in the Talang Boseng isolect of the Rejang language is evident in the semantic differences arising from variations in application, which can be further subdivided into temporal and object applications.
Nadra Nadra, Noviatri Noviatri, Tiara Juwita Copyright (c) 2025 Nadra Nadra, Noviatri Noviatri, Tiara Juwita https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://diglosiaunmul.com/index.php/diglosia/article/view/1175 Mon, 16 Jun 2025 09:34:45 +0000 Perlawanan diskursif terhadap mimpi Amerika dalam novel American Dirt karya Jeanine Cummins https://diglosiaunmul.com/index.php/diglosia/article/view/1248
This research aims to examine the discursive discourse on the American dream in the novel American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins. This novel tells the life of Lydia and her son, Luca as immigrants in the United States. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method supported by Stuart Hall’s represnetation theory and belonging theory. The narrative of Mexican immigrants built by Cummins illustrates the ideals of achieving the American dream for a better life in the existing characters. However, the life that is dreamed of does not go completely as it should. Lydia and Luca are trying to achieve their ideal goals as new citizens. However, minority construction is still a hindrance. With the theory of representation and belonging, the depiction of Lydia and Luca’s lives is a process that immigrants should face. The rejection of the majority by the minority is an ongoing negotiation process and is not easy to achieve. Lydia and Luca are representations of Mexican immigrants who still have to negotiate the search for identity in a new community in the United States.
E. The phenomenon of religious tolerance in this tafsir reflects the need for clear boundaries for Muslims in dealing with differences, especially in the midst of conflict over the meaning of tolerance between Western and Islamic perspectives. Roland Barthes' semiotic method is used to identify and interpret the three levels of meaning in the tafsir, namely denotation, connotation, and myth. The main findings show that the limits of tolerance in Islam include the ability to distinguish between good and evil, limiting tolerance to personal issues without involving aqidah, and rejecting evil with good patiently and wisely. The study concludes that the connotative and mythical meanings in this text serve as profound social advice, which not only maintains religious values but also supports social harmony. The contribution of this research is to enrich semiotic studies in Islamic studies, especially in the context of tolerance. This research is relevant for understanding the limits of tolerance that can be applied in a global and multicultural context, as well as strengthening the relationship between semiotic theory and Qur'anic interpretation.
Devi Suci Windariyah Copyright (c) 2025 Devi Suci Windariyah https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://diglosiaunmul.com/index.php/diglosia/article/view/1214 Tue, 17 Jun 2025 00:00:00 +0000
